We had a slim weather window of opportunity but wanted to see some pretty, golden larches, so we decided to go to Miller Peak in the Teanaway with Kaeli and Melissa. We started up the Miller Peak Trail at 10:30 AM. It was a slow and steady climb. By about 5,000 ft we were in the midst of the larches, which weren’t quite at peak color yet.
At noon we reached a clearing with nice views to the east, so we stopped here for lunch. We then continued left (northeast) toward Miller Peak. We did encounter some dirt bikers going up and back down the trail but otherwise didn’t see any other people all day.
The final ridge walk was very open. We reached the summit at 1:15, where we made a mountain goat friend, and didn’t linger too long because we wanted to give him some space to do mountain goat things. It was a bit overcast, but we did have nice views of the nearby peaks.
On the way back down, Melissa packed out a large piece of trash that she found, and we continued on our merry way. We finished up a little after 3 PM.
