We had previously tried to go to Red Top in Spring of 2020 when the weather wasn’t great and we just wanted to get out. We drove all the way out to Hwy 97 and the turnoff at NF-9738 only to find out that the whole eastern Teanaway area was closed due to a murderer being on the loose. We changed plans of course but had wanted to get back here despite the long drive.
We decided to make the return trip now as it is a fairly easy trip with good views, and with Vanessa being pregnant she is a bit more limited these days. This time the drive was uneventful but still very long. We thought we might not make it to the proper trailhead due to snow but we were able to scooch over a few snow patches in the Fit and made it all the way to the upper trailhead.
It was windy and cool but super clear so the views were great. The hike was steep but easy and it didn’t take long to get to the top. We got to enjoy the lookout area to ourselves for quite a while before deciding to descend. We passed some people on the way down. A short and simple but beautiful trip….and we didn’t get murdered!
