We arrived at the Stevens Pass parking lot around 10 AM and it was nearly empty thanks to the resort being closed. The conditions were… not ideal. It was raining pretty hard in the parking lot and we lost two of our ranks before we were able to rally the rest. We decided to skin up below the Skyline Express lift.
We reached the top of the lift in about an hour. Over the course of that hour we experienced all sorts of conditions including rain, snow, sleet, and sunshine. We also saw approximately 50 mountaineers coming down from the hill after some sort of training session. At the lift we enjoyed a quick snack, beers, and fresh corn*!
*actual corn, not spring corn snow. the snow was terrible
From here we transitioned to ski mode and skied down with Beta the border collie and Lupi the golden mix in tow. The snow was in a unique condition after recently being rained, sleeted, and snowed on. At times it was like skiing with skins on, but there were some good sections, too. The steeper areas were pretty good. That said, we weren’t inspired to skin up again so we decided to call it a day and reconvene at the new brewery in Sultan. Hard to complain about fun times with friends and a free ski at Stevens Pass!
